Analysis: Wieters played catcher for the first time on Tuesday and reported no ill effects after the game. However on Wednesday, the Orioles shut him down from catching for at least a week. Showalter said that if Wieters is unable to catch the team's opening game on April 6 at Tampa Bay, he would not be on the roster as a designated hitter.

Analysis: The three-time All-Star caught six innings Tuesday against Minnesota in his first game behind the plate since elbow surgery June 17. He is 0 for 23 at the plate in spring training. Wieters hit .308 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 26 games last season. He batted .287 with 22 homers and 79 RBIs in 148 games in 2013.

That will give him enough time to be ready for the April 6 opener at Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Last year, the Orioles won the AL East despite getting just 26 games out of the three-time All-Star catcher. Manager Buck Showalter says that even though the time won without him, they're better with him.
